This may sound strange, but this picture really warms my heart:
Kids on bikes in the snow with big grins. But even better is the backstory to the picture.
The above picture was shamelessly lifted from an article that ran in the Calgary Herald last month entitled “For kids, riding bikes to school through winter is fun. Parents see something bigger.” The story behind the picture couldn’t be better: an enterprising student seizes an opportunity to avoid the bus and lead a gang of his friends to school and back every day. Through the snow. On bikes.
Their motivation? Variations on the theme: “the bus is boring; bikes are fun.” No big picture thinking involved. But their story is inspiring in a way statistics on childhood inactivity and reports on obesity rates can’t match, and definitely worth a read.
