The Cool Routes to School (CRtS) program employs a student leadership model to changing school transportation attitudes and behaviour. A student engagement facilitator works directly with a “lead class” from each school to develop and implement student-designed and led program initiatives that address barriers to and opportunities for promoting active travel to and from school.
The CRtS program main objectives are:
- To educate students about the benefits of safe and active school travel
- To empower students with the ability to make healthy and sustainable travel choices in the future.
In 2013, we participated in Fraser Health’s Healthy Community Partnership, in which we were able to showcase the Cool Routes to School program at Queensborough Middle School in New Westminster.
