Student Transit Workshop

HASTe is working with Translink to develop a Student Transit Workshop for intermediate (grades 5-7) elementary school students in Metro Vancouver.

Nearing the end of their elementary-school careers, intermediate students are at the point in their lives at which Transit can have a real impact. They are both ready to make independent travel plans and trips, and about to start travelling longer distances to attend middle/high school and extra-curricular activities.

The workshop comprises primarily of hands-on learning opportunities. Students are introduced to the concepts and resources they need to plan and execute a trip using public transit. They also work on developing the social skills and awareness they need to be confident, safe, and model transit users.

The Student Transit Workshop is currently in the home stretch of its pilot phase. HASTe hopes to offer it to schools and students across Metro Vancouver starting in the 2018/9 school year. If you think your students would benefit from learning about public transit and the places it can take them, please contact Laura Bamsey, our Youth Engagement Facilitator, at laura@hastebc.org to find out more.
